A prior post I talked about the girls I babysit . Erin, who
has CMTA, just came home from the hospital after a successful surgery. CMTA
which is known as Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disorder that “is the most commonly
inherited peripheral neuropathy and is found worldwide among all races and
ethnic groups”(cmtausa.org). This disorder is not life-threatening but it can
be passed down from generation to generation. Erin went to a hospital in Boston
and will be out of school for a month while her leg heels. This surgery is
supposed to help her walk a little bit better. She has to get her other leg
done in the summer. This disease is hard full the whole family. I have heard
many times before that when a person has a disability, the whole family also is
just as affect as the person diagnosed. The whole family works together to help
Erin cope with her disease. Even their extended family helps out in everyway
possible. She is such a strong girl with so much potential and I am so glad
that I can help her along her journey in life.
